Not time for self care

No Time to Care for Yourself? What If Time is Not The Problem

February 11, 202610 min read

If you’re a midlife woman who leads, nurtures, manages and holds everything together, you know how to start the day with good intentions — eat better, move more, get to bed earlier — and then blink… the day is gone.

You wake up tired, stare at your wardrobe full of clothes that no longer feel comfortable, and push through as you feel there’s no time to pause.😒

And I know there’s this constant thought that you can’t seem to fit it in.

🤲 This, right there, is where our story begins.

Because when it comes time to invest in yourself, “I don’t have time” is one of the main roadblocks I hear.

And here’s the tricky part — the very act of scrolling social media for quick fixes and “women over 40” advice only eats away the little time and energy you do have. It’s the perfect trap: searching for solutions becomes another thing that keeps you from starting.

So what’s the real solution?

Here is my take on time – and three ways to reclaim it without overhauling your entire schedule.

But first, why does “I don’t have time” feel so true?

Time is a valuable currency and also a common excuse.

Our culture has glorified busyness. We’ve been taught that being constantly in motion equals being valuable – and pausing, even for a moment, is perceived as being lazy or indulgent.

“I don’t have time” often reflects how deeply society has tied our worth to our productivity.

For this reason, many things happen underneath busyness, and I have addressed them all for you with a practical solution attached (you can click on each statement to go directly to the answer):

  • “I can’t add anything more to my plate”

  • “I don’t feel like I can slow down”

  • “If I take time for myself, someone else will go without”

These thoughts are the sign you’ve been running on a belief system that no longer serves you – and that’s exactly what I untangle in this blog post.

So let’s start.

1. What If Time is Not The Problem? Stop Your Energy Leaks First

If you feel time-poor and overwhelmed, this is usually a sign that something else needs your attention,

And it’s not your agenda, it’s your energy.

When your energy leaks, you walk through the day on autopilot, trying to do more in less time – and you end up achieving nothing for yourself.

These energy leaks hide in your everyday habits.

They are in – the skipped breakfast as you rush through the door – the late-night scrolling – the extra glass of wine to decompress – the cluttered bedroom that never feels restful.

They are under tension of trying to be everything to everyone. More on that below.

And because they seem small, they go unnoticed… until they completely drain your reserves.

The result❓

Less productivity, less presence, and an endless feeling of running behind. 😒

One of the simplest, most tangible shifts I guide women through is identifying where their energy leaks.

One of my clients, Ruth, knows this story well. She was exhausted, overwhelmed, and frustrated by her weight gain. She was wondering, “How can I possibly add one more thing to my plate?”

But over time, Ruth learnt she didn’t need more time, she needed a system that restored her energy.

And having nourishing meals was part of it.

At the beginning, cooking felt like an impossible chore. But when we began to redesign how she approached meals, something changed.

She realised that with a 15-minute weekly plan, she could save hours –because it was never about not having time to cook. It was about:

🚶‍♀️‍➡️ The energy lost in wandering in the aisles of the supermarket,
🤔 The energy lost in asking herself “what’s for dinner” every night
🥱
The energy lost in snacking on convenient food and ending up sluggish and craving more

Through small, strategic changes – following a structured yet adaptable weekly meal plan and tweaking her eating rhythms – she discovered how much energy she’d been losing to decision fatigue and chaos.

Like Ruth, once you stop your energy leaks, you create energy loops and gain time as you become more productive and focused.

This is how the transformation starts – in small, grounded acts of reclaiming your energy so you perceive time differently. Because time expands when you plan around energy, not tasks.

2. A Different Way to Think About Time Through Mindfulness

When you are stressed or overwhelmed, time feels like it’s slipping away. But when you are present, time expands. You think more clearly, make better choices, and feel grounded.

Research shows that self-awareness – the ability to notice what you feel and think – directly influences your perception of time.

When your self-awareness improves, you feel less rushed, even when your schedule hasn’t changed.

That’s why mindfulness isn’t just about calm – it’s about reclaiming time.

Giving yourself permission to pause and breathe is putting your oxygen mask first. When you give yourself permission to care for your energy, you naturally cultivate self-confidence.

In the process I guide women through, we start small – as small as three minutes a day. Three minutes to pause, breathe and be fully present to ourselves. These micro moments, I call somatic self-love strategies, are deceptively powerful. As you learn to connect your brain to your heart, you retrain your brain to prioritise what truly matters.

As a result, your confidence builds, and time no longer feels scarce.💥

There was a period when I, too, dragged myself through the evenings, wanting nothing more than to collapse in my bed and still pushing through to finalise a project. At the time, even a 10-minute walk felt too much. I perceived this time as taking up my entire day because of the resistance I had.

I finally realised that the lack of energy I blamed on “time” was, in fact, the reason I had no time. The resistance was draining me, and I was more exhausted than ever.

That’s when I created a rendezvous with myself –a three-minute break to stop chasing time. This simple structure deeply changed the way I perceived time and gave me the energy I needed to recalibrate my life.

It became the backbone of what I teach. Ten years on, it still grounds me. My body and my brain are ready for the walk, the cooking, the breathing and it is part of who I am.

🚩 Learning to value your time from a grounding place of calm and serenity is the foundation for everything else – your relationships, your career, your creativity. Because when you are reactive, time shrinks. When you’re grounded, it expands.

3. Maybe it’s not the time you need, it’s permission

The truth that often sits quietly underneath “I don’t have time” is not about time. It often hides a deeper belief about self-worth.

For many women in midlife, years of caring for others have created invisible rules. Underneath time lies a mental baggage that “I am not good enough” or “I don’t deserve it” or “if I do something for myself, it is to the detriment of others”.

These women carry the silent narrative that self-care is indulgent – even selfish. They have internalised that taking time for themselves comes at the expense of others.

But the truth is when you run on empty, your presence – at work, at home – fades away.🥺

How do I want to feel?” is one of the most overlooked questions.

In the Fasting Lifestyle System, we explore your emotional landscape – the balance between depleting and arousing emotions.

Once you map where you are and where you want to be, you consciously and heartfully make choices – and this, in itself, improves how you perceive and manage time. Learning to feel the way you want to feel changes your relationship to time as it changes your relationship to yourself.

But it goes further…

As you lighten your mental load, something magic happens.

You start to share with those around you how to manage their time and emotions. And as they become independent, you get more time in return. And your relationships improve because you are giving them permission to feel the way they want to.

🚩Spending time in a coaching program for yourself is not about “finding more hours” – it’s about regulating your emotions. And this has a ripple effect on your energy, your relationship and your confidence.

Try it now!

Stand up, move your shoulders and head gently and randomly, do some dance steps, and come back to reading. Notice how even one minute of conscious movement shifts your state.

That’s energy in motion.

When you practice it regularly, you multiply your focus and your resilience.

What happens when you recalibrate?

When you start investigating your “time story”, new questions arise: “Am I valuing my energy? Where am I giving away unnecessarily? How is my lack of energy or emotional instability showing up in my relationships and at work?”

You start noticing where your boundaries blur, when you say yes when you mean no, and where you over-function for others.

🚩Time management strategies won’t solve fatigue and weight gain. They’ll just make you more efficient at running on empty. That’s why recalibration is not about time-blocking your life to perfection. It is about aligning your energy so time feels abundant.

When you do, time flows, nourishing yourself is easier, and work feels clearer. Even your evenings start to feel spacious again.

The Framework That Helps You Reclaim Time and Energy

The process I teach in the Fasting Lifestyle System is designed to meet women where they are, to restore their energy, confidence, and calm. It’s not about doing more. It’s about becoming more deliberate, more grounded, more alive in the hours you have.

It’s based on nutritional medicine, neuroscience, and very tangible, approachable actions to anchor habits that last.

There’s no right schedule, no unrealistic expectations.

Just structured guidance to focus on pacing your meals, your life and your mind so energy becomes your compass.

Every second week for twelve weeks, we connect for a half-hour conversation – long enough to create clarity, short enough to fit in your calendar.

Between calls, you get:

✔️ClarityYou go through your personal energy recalibration framework, where you identify your energy leaks and replace them with energy loops.
✔️Momentum– You access short videos at your own pace– to soak up the why, what, how and when
✔️ConsistencyYou implement practical tools that fit in your own rhythm– to reinforce habit patterns that generate time, energy and emotions to feel yourself again
✔️SupportYou get access to me between calls– so you never have to feel stuck or alone.

The most liberating part you learn, right from the beginning, is how to slow down so time appears.

If that sounds like a lot right now, give yourself permission to take the first step – you don’t need more time to feel better. You need more presence while you honour your energy.

What’s possible when you stop saying “I don’t have time”

You step off the hamster wheel and start leading your life with energy and focus. You reconnect with your body, your confidence, and rediscover joy every day. And Ruth describes it like this after 12 weeks: “It’s working. This program has given me control over what I am doing, and I finally get my life back”

If any part of this spoke to you.

If you’ve been saying “I’m too busy” for far too long, let’s change that together.

💌 This is your invitation to get your energy, confidence and time back – one grounded choice at a time.

The Fasting Lifestyle System is designed to fit into your real life – your meetings, your family, your dinners, your late-night laundry loads – and help you reclaim clarity, energy and confidence as you calm the busyness that tired and overwhelmed you.

You don’t need more hours. You just need to use your energy differently.
